About the Role:
In this hands-on role, you will contribute to geotechnical design, hazard management, monitoring, and operational excellence across the open pit and Tailings Storage Facilities (TSF). You will play a key role in upholding the Ground Control Management Plan (GCMP), ensuring safe and efficient mining while driving continuous improvement in geotechnical practices.
Roster: 8 days on / 6 days off (fly-in/fly-out, Fridays).
Key Responsibilities
- Provide operational geotechnical support to mining crews and planning teams.
- Identify, assess, and mitigate geotechnical hazards in the open pit and tailings facilities to protect personnel and assets.
- Implement, maintain, and update procedures, processes, and databases for ground support, monitoring, and geotechnical functions.
- Update geological and geotechnical interpretations to support drill & blast, mining sequences, and overall stability.
- Conduct structural data collection, rock mass assessment, modelling, and slope stability analysis.
- Contribute to mine planning and design for long-term pit wall stability.
- Assess and monitor impacts of the SLC cave on open pit operations (current and future).
- Manage and optimise monitoring systems (radar, prisms, piezometers) for open pit and TSF.
- Deliver timely geotechnical input, reporting, and recommendations to stakeholders.
About You
We are looking for a safety-focused, solutions-oriented engineer with a strong foundation in open pit geotechnics and a passion for operational improvement. You thrive in a dynamic mining environment and align with Greatland’s values of safety, integrity, and innovation.
Qualifications & Experience
- Tertiary qualification in Geotechnical Engineering, Geology, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 2 years of relevant mine geotechnical or engineering experience (open pit preferred).
- Practical knowledge of rock mass rating systems, geotechnical modelling, slope design, and ground support.
- Sound understanding of slope stability analysis techniques and hazard identification/risk assessment.
- Proven ability to deliver projects on schedule with strong data analysis, presentation, and reporting skills.
- Experience with key software:
- Vulcan (or similar 3D mining software)
- Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access)
- Rock mechanics numerical modelling (e.g., Rocscience suite)
Mandatory:
- "C" class drivers’ licence
Desirable:
- Familiarity with monitoring systems (SSR, Trimble, VWP), regulatory compliance (e.g., DMIRS/WA), and tailings experience.

The operation includes both open-pit and underground mining and Australia’s third-largest gold-copper processing facility.
