About Telfer Operations
Telfer is a gold-copper mine located in the Paterson Province of the East Pilbara region of Western Australia. It includes both open-pit and underground mining operations, as well as the operation of Australia’s third-largest gold-copper processing facility. Since beginning gold production in 1975, Telfer has produced more than 15Moz of gold to date.
Our Telfer operations offer a fly-in fly-out work arrangement, providing our workforce with a healthy work-life balance. Onsite, we offer a broad range of recreational activities, including a recently refurbished gym, swimming pool, driving range, movie room, and both dry and wet mess facilities.
In addition to Telfer, Greatland owns 100% of the Havieron gold-copper, a world class development project with a multi-decade mine life, located 45km east of Telfer that will utilise the existing Telfer infrastructure to process Havieron ore, together with a significant exploration portfolio in the region surrounding Telfer.
About the Role
We are seeking a motivated Project Geologist – Resource Development to join our high-performing Geology team at Telfer. This role plays a key technical and operational function in the design, execution, and interpretation of drilling programs aimed at defining and expanding Mineral Resources.
Please note this role is on 8/6 roster FIFO from Perth – Monday to Monday.
As a Project Geologist – Resource Development, you will be accountable for:
- Performing detailed logging of diamond core and RC chips.
- Designing and planning drilling programs.
- Developing and maintaining drill hole plans, sections, and execution schedules.
- Assist with coordinating and supervising daily activities of underground and surface drilling contractors to ensure safe and efficient operations.
- Monitor drill performance, core recovery, and sampling integrity.
- Overseeing sampling procedures and ensuring QA/QC protocols are rigorously followed.
- Managing geological data, including uploading, validation, and interpretation using tools like acQuire and Leapfrog.
- Promoting safety through proactive hazard reporting and compliance with all site HSE standards.
- Engaging with stakeholders, including geology, planning, and mining teams, to achieve drill targets.
- Communicating results through timely and professional reporting, presentations, and summaries.
About You
Essential Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Geology or Equivalent.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in geology or resource development within mining environments.
- Proficient in geological software such as Leapfrog, Vulcan and acQuire.
- Demonstrated understanding of QA/QC best practices, sampling theory, and logging standards.
- Valid manual driver’s licence.
Desirable:
- Experience in both diamond and RC drilling operations.
- Strong knowledge of copper-gold systems and mineralisation models.
- Exposure to geotechnical logging and structural geology.
- Experience with safety reporting systems and best practices.
