About the Role
We are seeking a motivated and safety-focused Technician – Open Pit to join our Geology team at Telfer Gold Mine. Reporting to the Senior Mine Geologist, this role is responsible for supporting day-to-day grade control activities within the open pit mining environment.
You will play a key role in grade control sampling, ore tracking, data management, and supporting the delivery of accurate geological information to optimise mining operations.
Roster: 8/6 FIFO Roster
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct grade control sampling and geological data collection activities.
- Prepare, set out, and pick up grade control programs.
- Complete ore block mark-outs and stockpile mark-ups.
- Assist with ore tracking and identification of ore versus waste material.
- Ensure accurate and timely data entry into geological databases and software systems.
- Submit samples to the onsite laboratory in a timely manner.
- Liaise with technical services personnel and mining contractors to ensure safe and efficient grade control processes.
- Support and mentor new geologists and technicians where required.
- Maintain a strong commitment to safety by completing pre-starts, workplace inspections, and hazard identification activities.
- Participate actively in safety meetings and contribute to a positive site safety culture.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will ideally have:
- Experience in mining geology, preferably within a gold mining environment.
- Strong attention to detail and data accuracy skills.
- Experience using geological databases and software such as Excel, Access, and acQuire.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- A proactive and safety-first approach to work.
- A current and unrestricted Western Australian “C” Class Driver’s Licence.
About Telfer Operations
Telfer is a long-life gold-copper mine in the Paterson Province of Western Australia’s East Pilbara region. The operation includes both open-pit and underground mining and Australia’s third-largest gold-copper processing facility. Since commencing production in 1975, Telfer has produced over 15 million ounces of gold. The site operates on a fly-in fly-out basis and offers a wide range of onsite recreational facilities to support workforce wellbeing.
